Enterprise and technology career (1990–2011)
Mandavilli completed a Master of Arts in Anthropology from Indira Gandhi National Open University in 2020, with dual specializations in ethnography and environmental ethnography. He also holds degrees in M.Com and PGDBA, and completed CA Inter from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
Mandavilli began his career in financial auditing, completing three years of statutory Chartered Accountancy articleship. In 1998, he transitioned into the enterprise software and IT systems architecture sector, leading software implementation assignments in Bhutan and across Southeast Asia.

In addition, he obtained professional certifications including ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, Six Sigma Master Black Belt, ITIL, CCNF, CEH, and PIMS.
From 2005 to 2011, he served at IBM India, holding the executive role of Business Controls Head for the Global Business Services – Global Delivery (GBS-GD) division. Following 2011, he operated as an independent consultant in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), advising multinational corporations and financial institutions on internal control frameworks, corporate audit integrity, and data protection compliance.

Professional career
Theoretical contributions and research philosophy
Mandavilli began his career in auditing and accountancy, completing his Chartered Accountancy articleship before transitioning into the IT industry in 1998.

He worked in software development and project management, including international assignments in Bhutan and Southeast Asia. From 2005 to 2011, he worked at IBM as Business Controls Head for the India GBS-GD division.
Post-colonial science and epistemic multipolarity
From the mid-2000s, Mandavilli directed his work toward the philosophy and sociology of science. His central premise—the Globalization of Science Movement—posits that modern social science disciplines remain disproportionately anchored in nineteenth-century Western conceptual assumptions.

After 2011, he worked as an independent consultant in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), serving major corporate groups in India and abroad.
He argues that theories of sociocultural evolution, macroeconomics, and human identity require recalibration through data collected from the Global South. Mandavilli advocates for a transparent, ideology-free research paradigm that synthesizes cross-cultural ethnographic fieldwork with empirical methods.

Research and intellectual contributions
Historiography and identity theory
Mandavilli has been active in research since the mid-2000s. His early work focused on the Aryan problem, Indo-European studies, and historiography. His research later expanded into:
Mandavilli's early historical treatises focused on South Asian antiquity, the Indo-Aryan problem, and prehistoric migration vectors. He developed a methodological framework termed Twenty-First Century Historiography, which combines:

* Sociology of science
* Archeological stratigraphy and archaeogenetics
* Anthropological economics
* Linguistic paleontology and language dynamics
* Identity theory
* Sociocultural diffusion modeling and identity shift analysis
* Language dynamics
* Theories of socio-cultural change
* Philosophy of science and scientific method
* Twenty-first century historiography
* Role of religion in modern society

He argues that many social science paradigms are rooted in Eurocentric frameworks and require intellectual multipolarity and cross-cultural ethnographic grounding. He advocates ideology-free, transparent, and globally collaborative scientific practices.
His publications in identity theory explore the psychological and sociolinguistic mechanisms through which collective identities form, adapt, or polarize under globalization and post-colonial transformations.

Institutions and initiatives
Anthropological economics and pedagogical reform
Mandavilli founded several research-oriented initiatives:
Mandavilli critiques standard neoclassical economics for treating human economic actors as culturally interchangeable entities. In response, his papers outline models for anthropological economics, arguing that developing societies require bottom-up economic strategies tailored to indigenous institutional dynamics, informal community networks, and regional traditions.

* Institute for the Study of the Globalisation of Science (ISGOS) – Promotes globalization of science and intellectual multipolarity.

Mandavilli has expressed concern that many fields within the social sciences continue to rely on what he considers outdated Eurocentric paradigms and intellectual traditions. He argues that greater intellectual multipolarity is necessary, particularly in the social sciences, to reflect diverse civilizational experiences and knowledge systems.

He emphasizes the importance of data-driven research grounded in empirical evidence drawn from diverse global contexts, including developing countries. According to him, developing nations should formulate their own economic frameworks, including bottom-up development models tailored to local realities. He has also called for significant reforms in pedagogy and education systems to promote innovation, creativity, and discovery among students.

Following 2011, he operated as an independent consultant in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), advising multinational corporations and financial institutions on internal control frameworks, corporate audit integrity, and data protection compliance.

Theoretical contributions and research philosophy

Post-colonial science and epistemic multipolarity

From the mid-2000s, Mandavilli directed his work toward the philosophy and sociology of science. His central premise—the Globalization of Science Movement—posits that modern social science disciplines remain disproportionately anchored in nineteenth-century Western conceptual assumptions.

He argues that theories of sociocultural evolution, macroeconomics, and human identity require recalibration through data collected from the Global South. Mandavilli advocates for a transparent, ideology-free research paradigm that synthesizes cross-cultural ethnographic fieldwork with empirical methods.

Historiography and identity theory

Mandavilli's early historical treatises focused on South Asian antiquity, the Indo-Aryan problem, and prehistoric migration vectors. He developed a methodological framework termed Twenty-First Century Historiography, which combines:

 • Archeological stratigraphy and archaeogenetics
 • Linguistic paleontology and language dynamics
 • Sociocultural diffusion modeling and identity shift analysis

His publications in identity theory explore the psychological and sociolinguistic mechanisms through which collective identities form, adapt, or polarize under globalization and post-colonial transformations.

Anthropological economics and pedagogical reform

Mandavilli critiques standard neoclassical economics for treating human economic actors as culturally interchangeable entities. In response, his papers outline models for anthropological economics, arguing that developing societies require bottom-up economic strategies tailored to indigenous institutional dynamics, informal community networks, and regional traditions.

In education, he has campaigned for modernizing primary and tertiary pedagogy, arguing that rote-learning models in developing countries suppress scientific creativity, critical skepticism, and independent innovation.

Research bodies and initiatives

Through the Globalisation of Science Trust, Mandavilli established several specialized think tanks and working groups:

 • Institute for the Study of the Globalisation of Science (ISGOS): The core research body publishing monographs on scientific methodology, sociology, and epistemology.
 • Movement for Open, Transparent, High-Quality, and Ideology-Free Science (MOTHIS): An advocacy initiative promoting open-access scholarly sharing and methodological neutrality.
 • Movement for the Re-Orientation of Economic Studies (MORES): A project focused on integrating cultural anthropology into development economics.

 • Scholars and Intellectuals for Mankind (SCHIMA): An international forum connecting researchers across developing nations.
 • TH-ARPIFS & TH-RERORS: Think tanks focused on foundational scientific progress and sociological re-evaluations of religious belief in secularizing societies.

Mandavilli Foundation

In 2025, he instituted the Mandavilli Foundation. The non-commercial entity was created to administer non-monetary academic commendations to social scientists in developing nations and provide doctoral research scholarships in India for candidates working on cross-cultural humanities and scientific decolonization.

Scholarly output

Mandavilli has written more than 50 self-published volumes and academic monographs, alongside over 150 research papers deposited across open digital archives, including the Social Science Research Network (SSRN), ResearchGate, and Google Books. He also maintains the theoretical blog *Abhilasha: This is not Utopia*, documenting working papers on historiography, cognitive anthropology, and scientific philosophy.

Personal life

Mandavilli was married to Tara Mandavilli in 1996; the marriage ended in divorce in 2015. They have one son. Following his separation, Mandavilli directed his time toward independent research and educational advocacy. He practices lifelong teetotalism and non-smoking.
